Alpha Four

To use Alpha Four Version Three on a Windows XP machine that is receiving the attatched error message "LAN Error: adapter malfunction - Please Reboot", follow the instructions below.

Go to the Dos Box website, download, and install Dos Box.   (Next, Next, Finish…)

After installed, browse to C:\Program Files\DOSBox-0.74\ (That is the current release as of the publication of this document)

Open: DOSBox 0.74 Options.bat

A notepad window will open for dosbox-0.74.conf

Scroll to the bottom and you will see [autoexec].  This is the section that will emulate the autoexec.bat file.  Add the following exactly as typed, minus what is in () below including carriage returns. The first line is the mount command.  The command will mount C:\ to the location where Alpha is installed.  If this is on a network drive for a shared install, you will first need to have the drive mounted in Windows, then you can use the same command to mount the network drive.
Mount C C:\(Alpha exe location)

A4 (or name of EXE)

This will launch Alpha when you double click the DosBox icon that was put on the desktop.  You can modify the name and icon to be that of Alpha.  You can also add the –noconsole switch to the end of the target so that the console window for DosBox does not show up.  There are lots of settings in the dosbox-0.74.conf that you can change such as Full Screen and Cursor lock.
I hope this helps some peopel out. I spent 2 days troubleshooting, autoexec.nt, config.nt, network card drivers, BIOS settings, everything I could think of before I realized I could use an emmulator... DUH!  :-)
